About Coach K
Skye “Coach K” Kooyman is the founder and CEO of Teen Pulse, and author of the percussion methods book series: Vitamin K for Drummers Today. Stomp to Symphony… Drumline to Drumset… Coach K has done it all.
On her journey, Coach K has earned her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from the University of Redlands, coached drumlines, taught private percussion lessons, and served as a clinician to high-performing bands and music education programs throughout Southern California including San Bernardino County Honor Bands, Los Osos High School Bands, Summit Intermediate School Bands, and the University of Redlands School of Music and more have benefited from her expertise.
Coach K’s students have gone on to perform in honor bands, receive scholarships to such prestigious music camps as Idyllwilld Arts Academy. More importantly to Coach K, they develop a reputation for honesty, helpfulness, leadership, and ownership that is almost unheard of in the teen world.
As a music educator and personal development mentor in California, her passion and unique approach in both avenues have solidified her as an expert in inspiring teens to discover and develop their strengths so they, too, can leverage their youthful energy and make a positive impact on the world.

About Ms. Q
Susana “Ms. Q” Quinteros is the Director of Operations for Teen Pulse and an accomplished bassist performing in Big Bands, Jazz Combos, Dance Bands, Wind Ensembles, and Symphony Orchestras across the America and Europe.
On this musical journey, Susana earned her Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Music Teaching Credential from the University of Redlands, served as a clinician for beginning and advanced jazz ensembles, coached marching band front ensembles, and taught private lessons. In particular, Cope Middle School and Los Osos, Redlands, and Citrus Valley High Schools have recently benefited from her expertise.
Throughout her experience with youth, she has discovered the importance of giving her students a voice and approaches teaching in a method a self-discovery. She leads and connects with questions and allows youth to integrate their experiences to expand their knowledge, as well as hers as an educator.
About Our Interns
Nathan Cupul is an intern with Teen Pulse, specializing in individual musicianship. Nathan is a working student attending the University of Redlands for his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He plans on serving in the military in order to build his leadership and team management skills while simultaneously providing himself with an honorable source of revenue to base his life off of before continuing his teaching career.
Nathan has taught music at multiple schools in Southern California as both a volunteer and a professional instructor and has also played in numerous ensembles including orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, jazz, percussion, and marching band with the hopes of taking from each of these experiences and using them in his regular interactions with students.
Nathan continues to dedicate his time searching for new and creative ways to teach students while keeping the teaching environment respectful, yet full of the same enjoyment and wonder that so often captivates music students.
Jessica Nuñez joined Teen Pulse as an intern in the summer of 2011 and serves as our Social Media Specialist. Jessica is a sophomore at the University of Redlands, majoring in Music Education and has been playing clarinet and saxophone for nine years. Jessica chose music education as her future profession was when she had the opportunity to direct marching band rehearsals as Drum Major in high school because she loves to see the progression of skill from musicians at the first rehearsal until the last performance.
Jessica currently works with the Rialto High School Band as a marching instructor and woodwind technician. She also teaches private clarinet lessons for the University of Redlands through the Community School of Music.

Kirsten Combs joined Teen Pulse as an intern in the Summer of 2011. Kirsten developed her love for music and all its attributes in the award-winning Los Osos High School Band where she held a leadership position for two years and was specifically selected out of over 165 music students for the “Director’s Choice Award.”
Kirsten is a currently a student at Mt. San Antonio College double-majoring in Hospitality and Music Education and currently plays Saxophone & Euphonium in multiple ensembles there.
Kirsten has also recently been chosen to march euphonium this summer with World Champion Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. She plans to use the new skills she will acquire in this elite group to strengthen her knowledge through her experience and have more to bring back and share with students and colleagues across Southern California.
Leigh Lehmann joined the Teen Pulse team as the Intern of Development in Spring 2012. She is a senior at the University of Redlands, majoring in English Literature. She aspires to become a professional fundraiser, making a difference in the world by helping others support the causes they are passionate about. She wants others to know about the huge difference they can make with a little time and generosity.
As the Intern of Development for Teen Pulse, Leigh works to help bring awareness of the need for support to the Teen Pulse fan base. Her goal is to provide the means for Teen Pulse to grow, reaching more and more teens – someday, all over the country!
